Today
I weigh 14 stone 3 lbs, I have lost a pound, which is pretty good as I
have had my work Christmas do this week. Next week start on Total inches
and more exercise increases.
I’m
also working on Dreamlines for the first 6 months of 2013. these are
not set in stone yet but the four that I think I want to focus on
immediately are:
Top 4 for the first 6 months of 2013
Play
Games - I’m currently torn between running a massive sweeping epic
campaign and running a series of smaller self contained campaigns
letting me scratch my other systems itch.
Go to Gen Con US with the girls. This is on the cards for August.
Help People - Similar to my Gaming Self Help Post I’m looking into the field of Life Coaching.
Physical
Improvement - Slimmer, Fitter Stronger and more agile. The Goal for
Slimmer is under 13 stone by end of March. I need to set targets for the
other three parts and start working towards them.
Top 4 for All of 2013
New Car - As per my last Dreamline, This is probably one for the 4th Quarter of the year.
More Dwarven Forge - The Cavern Chasms set is now available in the UK and the Catacombs set looks amazing.
A House - At least as Nice as where we currently live. The first step of this is to save for a deposit.
Best Larp Fighter - This one has dropped off a little but I’m sure it will come back as the Larp season begins.

New Targets and Levels of Live Roleplayer
I
ended up taking the Gathering off the diet and then agreed a penalty
points reset with Ant. I Weight 13 stone 7lbs having been up to 13 stone
10lbs immediately after essentially a weekend long feast. Ant and I
have new 1 year targets we both want to be at <15% bodyfat by this
time next year. My next short term goal is under 13 stone by the end of
the September.
Levels of live roleplayer
I originally wrote this list quite angrily several years ago, dissapointed at how much of the game I felt people were missing out on. I have since though a lot about it and have rewritten it as a list of ways to try and make your events better. The list is fairly specific to the LT as that is the primary system that I play in.
Things that cause you to level up as a live roleplayer: (so gain 1 level for each of these that you have done)
Go to a Live role playing event
Gain a position of authority within your faction
Leave your faction camp more than 3 times in a weekend (going for food, monstering, with the rest of the faction, doesn't count)
Have Friends in another faction
Go to a sanctioned event
Go to a Sanctioned event run by another faction or Guild
Go to ten Sanctioned events in one calendar year
Have been in more than one faction
Have been in at least half the factions (at least a year in each one)
Have been in all the factions (at least a year in each one)
Go to more than one system
Join a Guild
Earn a position of Authority withing a Guild
Contribute to a ritual
Perform a Ritual
Own a Lammie
Help to organise or Run a Sanctioned event
Be considered for a DPC or NPC position
Have a Faction Hate you
Solve a plotline
Make a decision as to be PVP flagged as a Character or not
Get assassinated by other players
Make girls cry because of Roleplay (can also be written as provoke an powerful emotional response)
Thanks to the people that helped me compile the original list.
What level are you? What would you add to the list to grant someone another level? (i’ll add the best suggestions to the list.)

Diet update and Cheating at Confidence
This week I weigh 13 st 8 Lbs, I need to lose another 8lbs in the next two weeks to hit my 2 stone by the Gathering target.
Tricks and techniques for making yourself more confident. Something I find very easy to do now but took a long time to learn is confidence, here are some of my favorite tricks to make yourself both appear to be and actually become more confident.
1. Pretend you are/can.
This is a very simple trick and one that I have seen work for people familiar with Roleplaying all the time. At it’s core it is as easy as the name suggests, pretend you can do something and before long you will have done it. If you are a Roleplayer and you have done something in a game or a Larp field then you can do it in real life.
2. “Better make myself look big.”
This one sounds pretty weird but works surprisingly well, immediately before you need to be more confident imagine a giant glowing golden version of yourself and then step forward, feeling yourself growing to fit into it. I also hear the Mario Getting big from a mushroom noise when I do it.
3. Head Scripts
Similar to making yourself look big a Headscript is a short Mantra that you repeat to yourself inside your head before you do something you are worried about. It helps unify your body language so that what you are saying matching your non verbal communication. My favorite is
“I’m Cool, You’re Cool, You want to know more about me” ( i usually replace the last line to make it appropriate to what I am doing, for example “You want to do an order” is one I use if I have to cold call someone for work.)
4. Practice
Do something simple that is outside of your comfort zone. One of my favorites is asking pretty girls for their telephone number. Even if they say no the boost from being able to ask them can be massive.
5. Anchoring
This is a trick i learned from NLP. If you have ever been in a situation where you felt completely in control and confident you can use those feeling again in another situation. Simply remember that situation in as much vivid detail as you can, as if you are looking out of your own eyes at the memory. Then touch an easy to get to part of your body (I used the back of my right hand for my most powerful anchor.) Do this for 2 or 3 situations and then when you are in a situation that you need those feelings touch that point again and you can get them all back. I used this to pass my 2nd Driving test. I went from 11 minor and 2 major faults to 2 minor, using this trick.

Diet update and another reading List
This week I weigh 13 st and 8 lbs. I have lost a total of 20 Lbs. Taking a little bit longer to drop the binge day weight this week..
This weekend I am off to a Field in Derby for the LT Summer Moot. Then on Monday after the event I will be going to Alton Towers with several of my mates from the event.
As part of my Plan I am reading several books about getting better at things.
Here are a few of them:
Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? How to drive your career and create a remarkable future
This book is about becoming indispensable by applying emotional labor and making your work into art. I finished it on monday and am doing its advice in my day to day work.
Tribes: We need you to lead us
Another book by Seth Godin This time it focusses on how We should all lead especially when it is as easy to connect communicate and share as it is now.
Ant recommends his book The Dip for people suffering from depression or pursuing difficult goals. The Dip: The extraordinary benefits of knowing when to quit (and when to stick)
A Complaint Free World: The 21-day challenge that will change your life
I picked this book up after being inspired by a post on Tim Ferris’ blog. The idea is a simple but powerful one. Go 21 days without complaining, bitching, moaning or gossiping. They use wrist-band things that you move when you catch yourself doing it. I have managed 3 days in a row so far.
Agatha H. and the Clockwork Princess (Girl Genius Novels)
This is the fiction book I am reading before bed at the moment. It is based on the webcomic found here.
Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping
I haven't finished this one yet but it is a fascinating look at how people behave in shops. From when and how we look at signs to the route people take when they enter a store. Very interesting and I am looking forward to finishing it

A Plan and Diet Update
This
week I weigh 13st 10lbs my weight has been staying constant so if my
inches haven't changed considerably by next week I will have a hard look
at the diet to make sure I am sticking to it.
When I became the head of the Scouts Guild in the Lorien Trust Live roleplaying system, I said to myself and my team that everyone who comes into our guild goes away better, whether it was their stats in the system or real applicable skills. Now I am wondering if that can be applied to the real world as well? (or at least the gaming section of it) What would you like to do that you can’t do now? How can i help you do it?
This blog is one of the ways I want to do it.
Better is a very subjective term, which was deliberate when we applied it to Live Roleplaying. If I want it to work in the real world I think it will need a better definition. So the first thing I am going to work on is defining my goals of “Better” into something measurable.
I got better by defining my Dreamlines and starting to work towards them.
I am Beating Depression by making changes to what I do that have measurable effects.
If I can do these things then I can help other people do the same or similar things.
Chloe who i interviewed about Becoming a Photographer recently posted a one year on summary. In the next 12 months I intend to have achieved as much (but about making gamers greater rather than photography).
I also want to help make Game Shops better, through my work at Esdevium and through helping them directly, because Games Shops make more gamers and are a great way to talk to lots of gamers at once. This also need some slightly better definition.
This post at The art of Nonconformity along with several other bits and pieces have informed these ideas. The Questions in The Tower really resonated with me:
What are you going to make today?
Who are you going to help today?
That is what I want to answer next.

Dreamlining
One
of the reasons I started this blog was to help keep me on my diet track
by crowd sourcing guilt trips. The theory being that I need to carry on
doing it because I am telling you all about it.
This post is about extending that theory to my Dreamlines.
Dreamlining is something I read about in The 4 Hour Work Week. After my Harajuku moment I made a list of everything I wanted to do have or be in the next 6 and/or 12 months. Similar to a bucket list.
It recommends that you be over the top with the things you want and you group them into 3 categories. Things you want to Have, Do and Be (with Being actually a re wording of things you want to do).
Once you have a list of about 5 of each category you have a couple more steps, first work out how much they will cost you. Then work out the first three tasks to accomplishing each of them.
Decide which ones you want in the next 6 months and which ones you want in the next year. Then add up the costs for each thing. Add in your normal monthly outgoings and add a third for emergencies and you have the amount you need to do all the things you want to do in the next 6 months or a year. divide that down to work out your weekly or daily earning targets.
Once you have all that do the first task of the three needed to start accomplishing the things you want in the next 6 months. Do it now. Tomorrow do step 2, preferably before 11 am. Then step three the next day.
Some of the things on my list and the steps I have taken are taking are:
Having
More Dwarven Forge
I have wanted an awesome Dwarven Forge set up since I first demoed D&D on some at UK Games Expo Since then one of my good friends, the owner of Black Lion Games in Edinburgh, was looking to sell his collection. We worked out a deal and he sent it down to me. On top of that a European distributor for it opened up and I have been eyeing up additional sets greedily.
A New Car.
I have had my Ford Fiesta for close to ten years now and it is starting to show. In addition K8 needed a car for her new Job so this weekend she purchased a Ford Focus. I’m still looking for one for me.
More Lego!
Mostly for Mobile Frame Zero. I got a long way towards this one over my Birthday weekend because I had filled my Amazon Wishlist with Lego sets that would be good for the game.
A “High tech house”.
Basically I want to be able to watch all of my media on the TV in the living room. regardless if it is on DVD my Itunes or something else.
I have been investigating Apple TV or using one of our spare or old PC’s to make a media machine and networking it all but I have not quite finished sorting it all out. I have however started a one month free Trial of Netflix, which looks like I may never have to buy a DVD again.
Laser Eye Surgery
Fairly self explanatory. So far I have investigated pricing and quality.
Doing and Being
Go to Crete
My Aunt is the pro consul in Crete and I have wanted to visit for years. So far I have emailed her to ask some advice and investigated the prices of flights and hotels.
Going to Gen Con and Pax.
I have been to Gen Con US with work Twice now and I cannot recommend it enough.
Both of these are probably going to have to be delayed until 2013 as we have a very busy August already lined up.
Being the best larp fighter.
You may already have seen some posts about my progress with this. I had originally listed being a better Larp fighter but you don’t get better by being vague. My goal is to enter and win one of the fighting games at the next Grand Edrejan Fair and in the mean time to train and fight a lot of people who are better than me.
Being a Martial Artist
I really missed training so I have started going to Tai Chi and K8 and I am going to investigate Local Bujinkan Dojo’s again.
Each week I look at my list and make sure I advance at least one of the things by one step. so in addition to my Diet updates you can expect to see me updating my dreamlines and where I am on accomplishing them.
